Dashboard Confessional Live at the Cannery Ballroom

Last week the AEG Live/The Messina Group approached me to generate some buzz for Dashboard Confessional's concert at the Cannery Ballroom on Thursday, March 31st.  I didn't want to do the usual song and dance article, so I went out and got exactly what I needed -- a confessional from a die hard fan.

What made you fall in love with Dashboard?

I think what made me fall in love with Dashboard was the ability to relate to each song. Every song carefully mixes rough and hard with a hint of romance. Chris Carrabba's voice is so unique from anyone else I have ever heard. He is able to sing something sweet but with a strong, hard voice and vise versa. I also love that he is able to just let it all out; you really feel like he is singing from the heart and his own experiences.

Do you have a favorite song that is especially memorable?

"Hands Down" from the album "Mark, a Mission, a Brand, a Scar" might be my very favorite song from Dashboard. I feel most people can relate to these words in their own way because most people have experienced a similar situation. For example, in this song they sing:

"This night is wild, so calm and dull
These hearts, they race from self-control
Your legs are smooth as they graze mine
We're doing fine, we're doing nothing at all
My hopes are so high that your kiss might kill me
So wont you kill me so I die happy
My heart is yours to fill or bust, break or bury
Or wear as jewelry, whichever you prefer"

And then later, they sing:

"Hands down, this is the best day I can ever remember
I'll always remember the sound of the stereo
The dim of the soft lights, the scent of your hair
That you twirled in your fingers
And the time on the clock
When we realized its so late
And this walk that we shared together
And the streets were wet and the gate was locked
So I jumped it and I let you in
And you stood at your door with your hands on my waist
And you kissed me like you meant it
And I knew that you meant it"

Most people can relate to what they are singing about here. We have all had that first date, first love, and first kiss. Dashboard brilliantly expresses those feelings that go through your entire body when living those moments, so hearing the song takes you back and puts a slight smile on your face.

What do you like about seeing Dashboard live?

One of the things I like about seeing Dashboard live is their level of energy. They keep their energy up throughout the entire concert and deliver a breathtaking and memorable show. I also really like that when they sing live, they sound awesome - very similar to their actual recorded albums. I always hate when bands have awesome recorded music, but cant sing live at all. You will never have this problem with Dashboard; they will never disappoint their fans!

Anything else you want to add?

One last thing ... if you take anything away from this article, please please please download the song I referenced above, "Hands Down."  If you like it, then I recommend that entire album, it will change your life!

I saw the show last night in Dallas. One of my favorite moments was just after he played "The Sharp Hint of New Tears". The former frat boy in front of me's girlfriend had just left to get him his 7th beer. He turned to the other former frat boy to his left and said "The best part is, nobody here is thinking about the girl they're here with. They're all thinking about their high school girlfriends right now." And it was so true.

Dashboard is one of the best live show experiences I have ever seen. Which is why I've been to seven. It's like a campfire singalong at the fountain of eternal youth.
