Billups Art will be hosting In the Nude, a juried art competition, on June 26 from 6-9 PM during ArtEast. $5/cover (food and wine) ArtEast is becoming one of the “to-do” art nights in Music City. Local art galleries and businesses in East Nashville band together to feature their favorite local artists while hundreds of residents and art-enthusiasts walk around and check out the work.
A collection of some of the finest artists in the area have submitted their best art work of the nude human figure for this competition. With artists from Nashville, Chattanooga and other surrounding areas, this is sure to be a diverse and extremely talented show.
Each patron will be voting on their favorite pieces so the results will be based on what people like, instead of what a professional artist likes. Rewards will be given for "Best of Show," 2nd Place and 3rd Place. We will have artists creating works of a live, nude model during the show. As always, we will provide amazing singer-songwriters for everyone's entertainment as well!
Regardless of how you believe it was made-regardless of who or what you believe in, there is nothing more scientific and aesthetically pleasing than the NUDE human figure. "There is nothing in all the world more beautiful or significant of the laws of the universe than the nude human body." Robert Henri
Since the first creations, artists have been painting, drawing, sculpting and taking pictures of the nude body. Masters have mastered and students have learned just how to draw the beauty of the figure.
Michelangelo said, "He who does not master the nude, cannot understand the principles of architecture." Creating artwork of the nude figure can be considered as a rite of passage for artists. To communicate the elegance and beauty of the nude human figure is extremely hard to do... so lets find out who can do it the best.
"Man's naked form belongs to no particular moment in history; it is eternal, and can be looked upon with joy by the people of all ages. I have unbounded admiration for the nude. I worship it like a god. The body always expresses the spirit whose envelope it is. And for him who can see, the nude offers the richest meaning." Auguste Rodin
